GB vs Northern Ireland Theory Test
England, Scotland and Wales use DVSA services. Northern Ireland uses DVA/nidirect, and some booking/licence rules differ.

This website’s main test sections are written primarily for Great Britain. Northern Ireland candidates should verify booking, documents and eligibility using nidirect.
Important 2026 change
From 1 October 2026, GB provisional licence holders can no longer book or take Category A/A1/A2 motorcycle or Category B car theory/practical tests in Northern Ireland under the previous residency route. Northern Ireland candidates need to follow current DVA eligibility rules.
